Last night the Freshman Teams traveled to Trinity High School to take on the Central Spartans of Trinity. The games were both well played and very physical games. The White team got the evening started off by winning 8-6. After falling behind 6-0 early in the 3rd quarter the Roos found themselves with the ball and driving. They drive was capped off by Manny Hernandez taking the ball off the right side for a touchdown to tie the game. The Roos went for two and were successful as Manny attacked the left side of the line this time plunging in for the score. The game ended as the Roos defense made a stop on 4th and 1 from the 8 yard line. The game was again a well-played physical game that saw two teams battling all night till the final buzzer sounded.

The Freshman Blue squad came out hot as they got the ball first and marched right down the field. After a few costly penalties the Roos turned the ball over on downs. The Defense stepped up which turned into a theme all night long as both teams were extremely physical and energetic. The Roos had to battle right before half to keep the score at 0-0 as they stopped the Spartans on the goal line as time expired. The Spartans came out at the start of the second half driving right down the field for the games first score. After the 2 point conversion the Spartans led 8-0. The Blue Roos however would fight right back on the ensuing drive and overcome 3 penalties to see the drive end with a 30 yard strike from CJ Thornton to Xavier Holder for a score. The game was 8-6 going into the 4th quarter after a big pass play from the Spartans would set them inside the Roos 15 yard line the score would quickly change to 14-6. Needing a touchdown the offense would again take the ball down the field and score on a 1 yard plunge by LJ Watson. The two point conversion would fail leaving the Roos behind 14-12 with about 2:00 mins left in the game. After 2 plays and 2 timeouts the defense would come up with a huge fumble and recovery by Beau Burleson and LJ Watson. With no timeouts remaining and the Ball on the 50 yard line the Roos were looking to strike again to win the game. The drive started promising as Joseph Polk took the first play 24 yards down the right side setting the Roos up in great position. After a false start pushed the Roos back 5 yards CJ would find Holder for a quick 5 yard gain and out of bounds. The next play saw the Roos once again in a what seemed to be familiar place having to play from behind the chains as again they were charged with a false start pushing them back again. With few seconds on the clock Thornton dropped back to pass and escaped pressure to the left and trying to make something happen saw his pass go high and picked off by the Spartan Defense. This was a well fought game and we as a coaching staff are extremely pleased and happy with the overall performance of all the Athletes as they all fought hard against a team much bigger and stronger than them. They gave everything they had and left nothing in the tank. The Freshman football team is going into their bye week with only one game to go which will take place at Chisholm Trail the Thursday after Thanksgiving. We appreciate the fans and support that traveled with these athletes and can not wait to get back on the field as soon as possible.
