The Lady Roos advanced to the third round of the playoffs by defeating Midland in Midland this week. Kate Hansen set a school record for kills in a game with 26 and Logan Loran set a school record for assists in a game with 60.

1st Set – Weatherford 25-20

The first set saw the Lady Roos get out to a slow start, getting down 12-7 at one point and led to Coach Nick Gay taking his first time out. Abbie Lane had three huge kills to help turn the tide of that first set. A Lynsey Lee block and Kate Hansen kill helped get the score to 13-11. With Kayleigh Bateman serving the Roos brought the score to 14-13 and led to a Midland timeout. A couple of Bateman aces after that led to the first lead of the game at 15-14. The run continued with Bateman serving and drove the lead to 18-14. A Riess Griffith kill took the score to 21-17 and later a Lane kill took it to 23-20. Bateman had a kill to finish off the set, 25-20 for the Lady Roos.

2nd Set – Midland 25-22

The second set again saw the Lady Roos get off to a slow start by getting down 5-1. They didn’t panic though and quickly brought it back to a tie game at 7-7 with a couple of big blocks and kill from Hansen and a terrific dig from Lane. Hansen owed the net in the second set, stopping the attacks from the Bulldogs. With an ace by Hansen and a block by Lane the Roos saw the lead stretch to 13-9. With Hansen serving the Lady Roos kept pouring it on with a Lane kill and taking it to 14-9. The Bulldogs went on a run after that bringing the score to 15-14 Lady Roos in which Coach Gay took his first time out of the set. After getting down 18-16 the Roos retook the lead thanks to an ace and nice serving from Lane. Hansen then had a big kill and block to take the lead to 21-19. The lead was quickly lost but then a Hansen kill tied the game back at 22. The Bulldogs finished out the next three points to win the set 25-22.

3rd Set – Midland 25-23

The third set started very similar to the first two sets with Midland coming out to a quick 7-2 lead. Logan Loran and Veronica Cruz had two really nice digs to help keep the Roos alive at 8-4. After a kill by Lane and three by Hansen it was a tie ballgame at 9. Griffith serving helped drive the lead to 14-12 Roos in which Midland called their first timeout of the set. Midland stormed out of that timeout and took the lead 16-14 before a Hansen kill stopped the run. The Bulldogs took the lead again but a kill by Lane and Hansen brought it back to a tie game at 19. With the game tied at 20 and Loran serving Griffith had a huge kill to bring the lead back to Weatherford. Midland got up 24-20 at that point and a Hansen kill got it to 24-23 but then Midland closed it out to win the set 25-23.

4th Set – Weatherford 26-24

In the fourth set the Roos took the lead early 7-4 thanks to kills from Hansen, Lane, and Bateman. After a Bulldog run to get it to 7-6, Abbie Lane had two kills to run it up to 9-6. The set kept going back and forth with the score being knotted up at 14. The Roos got down 18-15 before a timeout was taken by Coach Gay. The Roos responded with a Lane kill and an O’Connor ace to tie it back up at 18. The Bulldogs went up 21-18, but then the Roos responded with the next three points, kills by Hansen and Lane, to tie it back up. The Lady Roos fought and got up 25-24 and then a Hansen ace serving finished off the set.

5th Set – Weatherford 17-15

The fifth set the Lady Roos got the scoring started with a Griffith kill and Loran kept it going with the serve. Hansen had two big kills to move it to 5-3. Midland took the lead 9-7 before a Lee kill brought it back to 9-8. Being down 9-12 the Roos had kills from Griffith and Hansen to bring it back to 11-12. The Roos had their back to the wall down 14-11 but Weatherford stormed back to win six of the next seven points and win the set and match 17-15.
