Your Running Roos combined sand, sun, and fun with a highly competitive cross country meet on Galveston Island Friday morning. There was a total of 860 varsity runners coming from as far away as San Diego, California and northern Arkansas to run an incredibly tough race in sand, heat, and humidity.
The day started off with the varsity boys placing 3rd out of 23 talented teams in the Varsity Division I race. The Roo mob was led by medalists Josh Gal (10th) and Kelan Bush (19th), closely followed by Riley Starling, Rafael Ordonez, and Tristyn Allison.
Race number 2 featured our Lady Roos top 6 girls and they did not disappoint as they were crowned the Galveston Beach Run Champions!! Rayla Castillo, Remi Boone (freshman), Cheyanne Gorman, and Nayelli Ordonez (freshman) all brought home medals. Macayla Kopacz and CJ Madrid rounded out the 1st place team.
Our final race of the day featured our top JV girls running in the Varsity Division II race. Again, they did not disappoint. They placed 3rd led by medalists Madison Pulis, Stella Adams, and Sophia White. Paige Blake, Mia Saldivar, and Brylee Hernandez rounded out the team. The weekend was definitely a memorable experience for all involved and these young men and women proved their toughness and resolve that showcased all of their hard work. A congratulations is definitely in order!
